Paris-ann Garcia is a graduating High School student starting college, using oil painting as her primary medium. Her mother was an artist, therefore she was drawn to creating art from a young age. Despite initially detesting painting, she finds it enjoyable and has since experimented with various mediums, but is mainly focused on oils.
Art has helped her process her emotions and has become a way for her to journal. She was born in Pennsylvania and moved around, eventually settling in Dallas. Traveling made her aware of the variety of people and personalities that exist, which inspired her art. She hasn't been highlighted much yet, but recently completed a summer program at the Rhode Island School of Art and Design's Pre-college program, and her work was included in all three of their exhibitions.
This was a big achievement for her being they could only choose two or three items out of twenty-five amazing students. The remainder art classes were either one-time events or regular art sessions at school. The only art school she had ever attended was Risd. Regardless, although she’s quite proud to say she was usually amongst in the top few in every class, it felt uncomfortable as she never felt challenged enough to exceed more. She was never sure what level she was at and feared she needed to be the worst in order to become better.
